ACTION ALERT!

Massachusetts Patient Advocacy Alliance
SUPPORTING SAFE ACCESS TO MEDICAL MARIJUANA

Dear Rachel,
The new legislative session has begun and a medical marijuana bill has been filed. Please ask your state legislators to cosponsor Chairman Frank Smizik's medical marijuana bill Docket Number 00371.

Mass. Patient Advocacy Alliance (MPAA) has been working closely with Chairman Smizik to pass medical marijuana reform this session. We spent a lot of time working with his staff to identify what aspects of a medical marijuana bill are most important to patients, and how this can be balanced with they type of regulations that will allow us to build broad political support for the bill.

We have until the first week of February to get additional legislators to sign on as cosponsors of the bill. The more cosponsors we get, the better are chances of passing this reform.

Please call or e-mail your state Senator and state Representative and ask them to please cosponsor the medical marijuana bill filed by Rep. Smizik, docket number 00371.

You can generate an automatic e-mail to your state Rep. and Senator with one click just by visiting our website (www.masscompassion.org)
If you prefer to write a letter or call your legislators, you can find out who your legislators are by visiting the General Court website.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA TALKING POINTS

When contacting your state Senator and state Representative, remember to always be polite and respectful. Here are some points you can use in your call:

15 states have medical marijuana laws, and people with serious illnesses in Mass. deserve the same protections as those in Vermont, Rhode Island, and Maine.

The decision to use medical marijuana or not should be made by doctors and patients, not criminal justice policies.

Many prescription medications available to treat wasting from HIV or cancer, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, Lou Gherig's disease, and other conditions are more dangerous and less effective than medical marijuana.

This reform is long overdue and widely supported- 81% of Mass. residents support safe access to medical marijuana, according to an ABC News/ Suffolk University poll.

If you are a medical marijuana patient, a family member or friend of a patient, or a medical professional, be sure to mention that to your legislator.

BE SURE TO E-MAIL MPAA ORGANIZER MATT ALLEN AT MJPATIENTS@GMAIL.COM TO LET HIM KNOW HOW YOUR LEGISLATOR HAS RESPONDED.
